
DeDe is a graduate of Cal State East Bay with a master's in Kinesiology specializing in Skill Acquisition and Sports Sociology. DeDe began rowing in high school for Skyline in Oakland and then became a member of the Lake Merritt Rowing Club. She continues to row and compete in masters events and has a hard time deciding whether it is best to have one oar or two when on the water. DeDe was the spare for the 1991 Pan Am Team and has been on two Olympic Sports Festival development teams. She has twenty years of coaching experience and has coached the sport of rowing at the junior, collegiate, masters, and national level. She has also coached cycling and power lifting in the past. What does she like best about the Aquatic Center? DeDe loves the enthusiasm that everyone brings to the Center. There is always noise at the Center which makes you constantly aware of how alive the water is.

Toby is a graduate of Sacramento State University with a degree in Recreation Administration. He has rowed for sixteen years starting with Capital in 1992. He was recruited by Washington State University. After two years rowing with WSU, he decided to come back to Lake Natoma and finish out his collegiate eligibility with the Sacramento State men’s team. Within those two years, the men’s eight went undefeated with the exception of one race. After college, he coached for Capital and Sacramento State, as well as, continued to row for himself. In 2003, he moved to Georgia to train with a previous National Team Sculling coach Igor Grinko, and try out for the 2004 Athens games. An inopportune knee surgery three months prior to trials limited his chances. He moved back to California and has continued with his training. He recently received his Certification for Level I Cross fit training and is working on his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification.

Rudy’s athletic background is in sculling, sweep rowing, swimming
and triathlon training, and he worked for 20 years as a NYC bicycle messenger.
Rudy has been a part of the Aquatic Center team since
2005 working as a rowing instructor and a Masters’ coxswain. In 2007 he began assistant coaching for Capital Crew and the Sac State Masters rowers. In his spare time, Rudy enjoys training as a tri-athlete and he works as a fitness trainer for other athletes. Rudy is especially passionate about rowing, and relocated to Gold River from New York so that he could train.

Dan is a graduate from Folsom High School in 2007. He is currently at Sierra College pursuing a degree in Fire Sciences as well as Business. Dan already has his EMT license and will be going through the Cal Regional Academy next year. He rowed for Capital for three years, competing in the Varsity 8 his Junior and Senior year. He was 2 seat in the Varsity 8 that won San Diego Crew Classic for the first time in program history, and went on to win the USRowing SW Regional Championships. Dan went competed at the National level, where he and his team placed third at the USRowing Youth Invitational. That is third in the nation! He also competed Internationally that summer in the 125th Royal Canadian Henley in the Men's Pair. He was an assistant coach with Capital last year for the Novice Men's program, who sent every boat to the Grand Finals at Regional Championships.
